the beginning pretty much determines the end...

Been there, done that. In all my many years of observation, including putting up shows or events, I only follow one rule---whether it's an ordinary public speaking occasion, a party, or any show for that matter, how the event starts determines the ending of the affair. I always follow the rule of "dropping the bomb" at the very start or giving the audience a mesmerizing opening and everything will be all right.

I recently attended a grand birthday party---grand in the sense that the venue was perfect, food was excellent, and the clothes and costumes of the performers were top rate, but I couldn't help yawning even at the very start of the show. The event planner seemed to have reserved the best part at the very last which, to me, came out too late the hero as I already was too damned tired to appreciate anything, not even the dropping of a bomb at the end could have saved me from boredom.

I guess it isn't too much to ask from party planners to start the party with the best part.

What is it to "party?"

Great. I was at this party and all I did there was sit and eat. The food was good, the venue was a delight, and the people were fascinating but at the end of the evening, I felt like I hadn't exactly partied. Why? I didn't get to dance because the people who I know there weren't up to dancing while my feet were itching to hit the dance floor and exercise myself to death to the beat of the latest songs being played. Sigh. What's to party, anyway? It is to enjoy and have fun and one doesn't get that sitting down nor is eating my idea of fun. What a bore. The people who I asked to dance were way younger than me in years but they seem to be suffering from a case of early old age.

I have observed several times in many parties that when the time comes for everybody to dance, people would start going home, leaving only a handful who want to keep the party alive but are unable to do so since everybody has already deserted the affair.

Do we only attend parties in order to sit and eat? Come on....

Why many parties fail...

Come on, no matter how much money you spend on food, props, fireworks, drinks, gimmicry, outfit, costumes, and other visual effects, any party would still have that ho-hum element without dancing. Yes, as in dancing by everyone and not just a few while everyone just sit and stare. That's boring. But when everyone gets on their feet and dances the night away, everyone will go home happy and with that feeling of having really "partied". Party people do not want to just eat and sit, period. NO matter what the age. We all want to dance. So always incorporate dancing into your party and everyone will surely have a grand time being there.

kid crying at b'day party

While the kids in the nursery class were singing happy birthday to Dewey who celebrated her birthday with her classmates, a boy was wailing on top of his lungs. I went up to him to try to cheer him up, asked him what he wanted, would he like a different animal hat or what? The boy just did not stop from crying. When the kids lined up to give their gifts to the celebrant this kid continued to cry and wouldn't stand up. He did not seem to like the idea of giving away the gift to the brithday girl. The teacher told me that this boy is really like that. Each time someone is celebrating a birthday, he always cries because he wants it to be HIS birthday! ain't he cute? Now I think the mommy will have a hard time explaining to this 5-year-old kid that birthdays happen once a year and on particular dates, and that everyone has his or her own birthday, and that he will also have his own birthday.

It's August 3, Dewey's b'day!

Something weird is happening in this blog of mine because the date has not changed since July 23---so this is what I am going to do-----make the date as my title. That way, nobody gets confused and people won't accuse me of neglecting this blog.

Another strange thing is that the newest tidbits I put in here do not appear as the latest post but somewhere in the archive.

Anyway, let this not spoil the party as we move on to what transpired during the 5th birthday party celebration of Dewey held at ABC Learning Center. It was fun! The kids looked like they were enjoying just having a short party with their classmates. The kids wore zoo party hats of hippos, giraffes, elephants, tigers, and bears. And yes, you'd think the teachers required the kids to bring gifts coz they each had a gift for Dewey. Each one went to the celebrant, gave her a peck on the cheek before handing her the gift. How nice.

I think having a birthday party at school among her classmates and teachers is good. We are considering this for her future birthdays. It's less hassle, less costly, less greasy and more fun!

5th birthday in school

We have finally decided to have a very simple birthday celebration for Dewey's 5th birthday come early August and it's going to be held in school with her classmates. Food will be delivered by McDonald's along with balloons and other party favors. We have to follow what previous celebrants in the class had been doing and that is, celebrating the birthday in school with classmates. It's a most welcome change because it's hassle-free.
